XRISM Proposal workshop

The XRISM X-ray observatory is a joint effort of JAXA and NASA, with significant contribution from ESA, SRON and University of Geneve. 

SRON Netherlands Space Institute for Space Research is organizing a workshop for XRISM Proposal preparation.

The workshop will be held at SRON Leiden on February 15th, 2024.

Program

Morning:

10:30 – 12:00 XRISM mission, status and proposal information
12:00 – 13:00 Lunch

Afternoon:

13:00 – 14:30 Workshop XRISM simulation of point sources (hands-on) *
15:00 – 17:00 Workshop XRISM simulation of extended sources (hands-on) *

The talks before lunch can be followed through Zoom, but the hands-on workshop after lunch is in-person only. Please indicate if you want to follow the morning session through Zoom in the remarks section of the registration form below.

  • For the workshops, we expect that participants bring a laptop with the latest HEASOFT software installed. An installation of SPEX is helpful, but not strictly necessary. If this is a problem, please mention it in the remarks and we may be able to help you. We also assume that you have a bit of experience working in a Mac/Linux terminal. Basic experience with Python and/or Jupyter notebooks is helpful, but not strictly necessary.
