My name is Dr. Tim A. van Kempen
I work as an Instrument Scientist at SRON Space Research Organisation Netherlands. My research centers the pre- and in-flight calibration of space-based scientific instruments, both in the fields of Astronomy and Earth Observations.
Astronomy
Currently I am a member of the PLATO Core Science Team and the PLATO Calibration and Operations Team. I work as the national program manager for the upcoming Ariel mission and lead the SRON contribution to the VenSpec-H module on the future Envision mission to Venus.
Earth Observation
For Earth observation mission, I led L1 team of the TROPOMI-SWIR module during and after launch. Currently i still serve as the L1 instrument scientist for TROPOMI.
History
I obtained a PhD in astronomy at Leiden Observatory under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ewine van Dishoeck and Dr. Michiel Hogerheijde. Before my position at SRON, I was a commissioning scientist at the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA), a support astronomer at the ALMA Allegro ARC Node and a postdoctoral fellow for the Submillimeter Array
