Calibrated light sources

The optics specialists are equipped with a set of calibrated and extremely accurate equipment, such as sophisticated laser sources and spectrometers, which they use to precisely determine how an optical system or component interacts with source light in a precisely defined light environment.

Testing, verifying and calibrating

They can also test properties such as flatness and alignment and calibrate instruments. To fully characterise instruments and components for their flight, a thermal vacuum chamber is used, in which performance is also verified in a vacuum at a range of temperatures.
