SPICA is a next-generation infrared astronomy observatory, a joint ESA-JAXA (Japan) mission with instrument contributions from European and Japanese consortia. With its deeply cooled (< 8 K) large (2.5-m class) telescope, SPICA will be able to achieve superior sensitivity and high spatial resolution.
SAFARI (SpicA FAR-infrared Instrument) is one of tho core instruments planned for the SPICA payload. SAFARI is the FIR spectrometer (30 - 250 µm, spectral resolution between 10 and 15000), next to the SMI camera/spectrometer (12 - 38 µm). Information/documentation with regard to the development and building of SAFARI can be found in the "SPICA/SAFARI project" menu item on the left.
