SPEX

SPEctral X-ray and UV modeling, analysis and fitting

What is SPEX?

SPEX is a software package developed at SRON for the analysis and interpretation of cosmic X-ray spectra. It encompasses options for spectral modelling, fitting, graphical display and output. The widely used Mewe-Kaastra-Liedahl (MEKAL) plasma model constitutes a part of the package.

Which version is available?

The current official release of SPEX is version 1.10. Only minor updates have been made on this version since that time. The reason is that a completely new version (2.0) is under development, with several new features and more possibilities. Version 2.0 is now publically available, although a part of the documentation is not yet ready.  Documentation for version 1.10 as well as instructions how to obtain and install it are given on this web site. More information on version 2.0 and how to obtain it is also given.
